Danica Remy, Board Treasurer and Managing Director
Danica Remy has been with Tides since 2003 and is Tides Advocacy Fund’s Managing Director. She serves as the chief operating officer as well as treasurer. Prior to relaunching Tides Advocacy Fund, she managed the shared operations and governance activities across the Tides network of organizations. Previous to Tides, she served as an executive at several corporations including Vice President of Organic, an internet strategy firm; Vice President of Knowledge Universe, a $3 billion global education company; and Vice President of Inquisit, a business intelligence service. Additionally, Danica was Vice President for The WELL, the pioneering online community, and co-founded the Global Business Network. Danica currently serves on the board of directors as President for Point, publisher of the Whole Earth Catalog, board director for Greenwood School, and board director for Network for Good.
Douglas Carlston, Director
Doug Carlston serves as CEO of Tawala Systems, an Internet technology company he co-founded in 2005. Previously, Doug co-founded in 1980 Broderbund Software, one of the world's leading publishers of productivity and educational software, and served as CEO (1991-96) and Chairman of the Board (1981-98). Doug currently serves on the boards of the AH Belo Corporation, the Albanian American Enterprise Fund, the Ploughshares Fund, MoveOn PAC, and the Long Now Foundation. He is a member of the NOVA Science Visiting Council, the Committee on University Resources of Harvard University and the Board of Advisors of Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies. Doug previously served on the board of directors of Belo Corp. (2007-8), Public Radio International (1997-2009, Chairman 2004-09) and the Santa Fe Institute (1996-2005). He is also past Chairman and President of the Software Publishers Association, and a past trustee of Dominican University. Mr. Carlston received his B.A. magna cum laude from Harvard College in 1970 and his J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1975. He is the author of five published books, from Software People (Simon & Schuster, 1985) to Beginning Swahili (Butu, 1970).
Drummond Pike, Board Chair and CEO
Drummond Pike is Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Tides. Awarded as an Outstanding Foundation Professional, Drummond helped pioneer the advent of donor advised funds in philanthropy. Drummond was a founder and Associate Director of the Youth Project in Washington, DC, and served as Executive Director of the Shalan Foundation from 1976 to 1981. He was also among the original founders of Working Assets, a telecommunications company dedicated to progressive philanthropy and political activism.
Iara D. Peng, Director
Iara D. Peng, is the director of Young People For, a project of People For the American Way Foundation (PFAWF) that is committed to identifying, engaging and empowering young progressive leaders and activists across the country. Before joining PFAWF, she was the Executive Director of the Youth Justice Funding Collaborative, a nonprofit that supports communications strategies that contribute to change throughout the country’s juvenile justice systems. Iara also worked as the Vice President of Doble Research Associates, a public interest consulting firm and was Vice President of Marga, Inc., a consulting firm to nonprofit organizations specializing in strategic planning, board development, fundraising and communications.
Joel Solomon, Director
Joel Solomon is CEO of Renewal, a collection of Vancouver based organizations which use business and philanthropy together to work towards creating a triple-bottom-line economy. Renewal has invested in over seventy-five companies that share its commitment to socially responsible growth, including some of the best-known social purpose companies in Canada. He is also Chairman for Renewal2, a social venture investment fund for both private and charitable mission-based investors. Solomon is a founding member of Social Venture Network, Business for Social Responsibility, Canadian Business for Social Responsibility, Tides Canada Foundation, and the Sage Centre. He serves on a number of business and charitable boards in the USA and Canada.
Joseph Mouzon, Board Secretary
Joseph Mouzon is the Principal of JAM Consulting; a firm that works with foundations, nonprofits and donors to optimize philanthropy. Previously, as Executive Director of Nonprofit Services for Network for Good powered by Groundspring, Joseph was responsible for the overall leadership of the West coast division. He directed all sales, service and business development, operations, strategic planning, and financial management activities. He also initiated and completed the merger of Network for Good and Groundspring to form the largest nonprofit Technology Service Provider in the U.S. - helping over 31,000 nonprofit organizations generate over $202 million in online donations since the merger. His board and advisory board experience includes: the Council on Foundations Technology Task Force, the Unified School District of San Francisco - School to Career, Craigslist Foundation, Jewish Vocational Services, and The Antonio Pizzigati Prize Prize for Software in the Public Interest.
Wes Boyd, Director
Wes Boyd and his wife Joan Blades were the co-founders in 1987 of Berkeley Systems, a San Francisco Bay area software company. After selling the company in 1997, Boyd and Blades went on to found MoveOn.org, which has quickly become a major national political force by using cutting edge online methods to coordinate fundraising and advocacy for progressive causes and candidates. He sits on several charitable boards.
